CalChamber Summit Advocacy Award
May 13, 2024
Last week I attended the California Chamber of Commerce’s Capitol Summit in Sacramento. This summit is a great opportunity to hear updates from the CalChamber’s team on topic relevant to the business community, like what state legislators are doing to address retail theft and what resources are available to our small businesses. Dr. Chris Thornberg from Beacon Economic also gave a lively update on the state of the California economy and how our businesses are thriving in the current environment. You can view his full presentation HERE.
The Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce was the recipient of the CalChamber’s 2024 Advocacy Champion Award! This award is given to chambers for their excellence in business advocacy. This is the second consecutive year the Chamber has been recognized for our advocacy efforts on behalf of our members.
While there, the UCAN (United Chamber Advocacy Network) chambers joined together, with our lobbyists from Smith Policy Group, to visit our local legislators to speak to them about issues affecting our members and what legislation UCAN is focused on. We not only met with Roseville’s representatives, Senator Roger Niello and Assemblyman Joe Patterson, but were able to speak with legislators that represent other communities, like Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil and Assemblyman Josh Hoover. Meetings like these are valuable to our advocacy efforts as we can bring specific pieces for legislation, like AB 2943 which allows law enforcement to specifically target serial retail thieves, in front of legislators and remind them of how important these pieces of legislation are to our businesses.
